The supernatural phenomena that scares me the most is demonic posession. Not that I think about it often, but I still remember the dreams I had after I saw “The Exorcist.”
I think I would be most scared of verifiable ESP. If someone could reliably know what is going to happen before it does happen or if someone could read my mind (and anyone’s mind for that matter), I think I would pee myself. It would definately change the way society works if either of those things could happen. Thanks for the contest!

what scares me most is ghosts.growing up my mother always told me a story of how her sister woke up one night and saw a man sitting at the foot of her bed when she told her mother about it and gave a description of the man they said it sounded just like an uncle who had been dead for many years.now after that i hate to even open my eyes in a darkened room because if i saw someone sitting on my bed i would probably have a heart attack.this is why ghosts scare me 😦

ghosts—-I had a ghost experience when I was in college –not your average ghost experience–a large group of us were helping with a fashion show at school –some were models, designers and dressers—we left for the show at about 5:oo pm –on our way we noticed a group of about 10 men all dressed in white robes on the roof of the building accross the street—one of us commented why would they be up their in robes–we all looked –and saw them–just as our taxis arrived –we had the fashion show and then a banquet–then we went out celebrating we got home at around 2:00 am. The next morning our house mother told us that around 9:00 pm there had been a fire at the building across the street and that 2 women & 3 children had died. So what did we see hours before–angels? ghosts? what the heck? and why before the tragedy?

I sometimes feel like I can “feel” ghosts around me in certain places and homes.
I agree with a few commenters here that the supernatural doesn’t scare me as much as reality. The very real dangerous predators out there, the serial killers, the stalkers, the misogynists who abuse their girlfriends, wives, and random women. Those people and their actions scare me more than the possibility of ghosts or other supernatural phenomena. If I had to pick a supernatural phenomena it would be demons.

This is a fantastic giveaway and I love the comments/reponses I have read. For me, it is definitely myself and my overactive imagination that I fear the most. I have scared myself silly more than once just by being alone in the house, taking a walk, running through the trails, etc. by giving that imagination free reign. I have learned not to read certain things when I am alone and to keep the phone handy so my mom can talk me out of my ‘spooks’. My daughter has apparently inherited the ‘imagination’ as she has more than once ended up in my bed due to her ‘imaginings’.

I think that what scares me the most is when you hear of people needing help in “crossing over”. I would not want to be alone in my home and have eerie things happening there.

+1 The supernatural phenomena that scares me the most would probably be vampires (and werewolves). They were very popular creepy creatures to put on Halloween cartoon specials when I was a kid. It scarred me for years. I’m just starting to be able to read/watch things with vampires in them.
I still think Bram Stoker’s Dracula (the movie) is soooo creepy!

Gosts scare me because they’re just so there…we had an elderly couple in a home we lived in once. the woman was a trickster and liked to pinch and hide or move things. all three of us kids saw each of them at one time or the other and described them to mom. much later while cleaning out the garage we found some old boxes in a very dusty back corner and the outfit on the top of two of the boxes were the clothes we had described to her. very freaky indeed!
I have ALWAYS believed in ghosts. Which is why I think they can be so scary!
I would have to say zombies scare me the most and yet I must see every single zombie movie and read every single zombie book out there. I just recently saw the Trick ‘R Treat movie and not zombie-related but that little Sam guy scared the stuffing out of me. He looks so cute at first and then becomes so creepy. hi, the supernatural phenomenon that spooks me the most is the idea that there are bad ghosts – like, the really haunted ones that want to cause harm or something (as opposed to the ones that just float across the hallway or stand in a corner). lol thanks!

I’m not really surprised so many people cite possession. It scares the heck out of me!
Possession is the scariest to me. I would hate to not have control of my own body
I guess it would be demons.

I think what would scare me the most would be having spirits in my house. I remember watching a movie about a poltergeist or something, and there’s this part where the lady lays down on her bed to go to sleep and, as soon as she puts her head on the pillow, you can hear a bunch of angry whispering, but when she lifts her head up, it’s gone. It’s not that scary but for some reason that part just really creeped me out. Can you imagine that happening to you? I’d never sleep!
Ohhhhh! YES! Creepy whispering ranks high on my “freaky” list. In fact, there’s a scene in Prophecy where my mine character hears it in half-sleep, and it still creeps me out!
Shadows when there is no light to make them.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that – but it would definitely give me the creeps if I did!

I don’t know how well this fits with supernatural phenomena, but I once did a past life regression that was terrorizing. Afterward the hypnotherapist told me that he almost terminated the session because my pulse rate shot up so high. Enough said, although I don’t think I will be visiting Mexico City any time in this lifetime.

I lost my daughter in 1983 and have always hoped to have a sign from her from the other side.

I think the Zombies in 28 Days Later are some of the scariest, freakiest horror-movie creatures EVER.

I would have to say the fear of being posessed. Though I was raised strict Catholic I am not practicing now but when I was like 11 my mother worked nights and one night I watched the exercist. The is a part in the movie that says that the devil or a demon can only posess you if you invite him in. ALso that you can do that by just thinking about him.
It scared the BeJesus out of me but what happens when you try not to think of something? We all know from that point on its ALL you can think of. I was up for weeks in a vain attempt not to think about anything evil and to this day if I think about somethng like that ( yikes when I saw the posession of emily rose) or see a TV listing for the exercist I go through the whole thing again

Its’ strange but supernatural stuff does not really scare me, reality does. i.e. someone breaking into the house, walking down a dark street in a strange neighborhood. The one supernatural phenomena that frightens me the most is the undead. If I have any kind of nightmare-like dream, it usually involves zombies. I’m not gonna lie, based on horror movie statistics, as the double-minority (I’m black and Korean), big girl with big boobs, I’d be the first to go down. LoL! Unless, they’re the classic, slow moving zombies, then I’d have a chance to escape.

The supernatural phenomenon that scares me most are aliens and UFO’s….I am a natural sceptic, but most of the time I feel that we can’t possibly be alone. There is someone or something else out there in the universe.

Either poltergeists or demons (demons who can possess people). Those scare me the most because they can do actual harm to you, while you can do very little (or nothing) to stop them yourself (unless you’re a medium or something). They’re just so powerful and evil.

Talking about supernatural phenomena…
things like having a ‘sensation de déjà-vu’ at certain places or situations, a sixth sense, intuition…don’t scare me…I think they enhance our lifes
some movies may have scary moments but don’t give me sleepless nights…
but then there are some things out there that really creep me out:
I remember watching ‘Fallen’ with Denzel Washington the first time years ago…I was really shocked when the movie ended and needed some quite minutes for myself…if you haven’t seen it: it’s about a demon called Azazel inhibiting bodies of humans…and then it didn’t have a happy end…being possessed…that really scares me

That demon possession thing keeps coming up. It must be that feeling of being trapped inside your own body, imprisoned by something truly evil…
And listen, if *I* can do it, YOU can do it! Just keep writing. Even 500 words a day is a book every six months or so. YOU CAN DO IT! Just keep chipping away at that word count and try not to worry too much about the editing part. You can fix stuff laterrrrr!

+1 I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m afraid of the dark, which isn’t supernatural, but I am afraid of those weird chills that sometimes come around on a hot night; it’s as if ghosts are hanging around. Being in the woods, feeling tension in the air, and suddenly you get a chill out of nowhere. Creeptastic!

Is craws supernatural? Probably not, but in supernatural settings, or dark, or even by day, craws really scares me. But some “real” scary supernatural thing… the girl in “the ring”-movies. Geesh, thats scary. Most of my friends didnt find it scary, but I was superscared after seeing it, and covered my TV every night before I went to sleep

Yeah, something like that happened to me! I was reading this really wierd book and it was giving me some off the wall dreams!! I wish I could remember which one it was though, Ill have to look and see if I can figure it out.
That happened to me when I was reading The Haunting of Hill House last week. It’s an old book, but it was recommended to me by Cornerstone Books in Salem, MA (of all places!) when I did a signing there, so I thought I’d give it a try. I have another book, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, by the same author. But now I’m too scared to read it!
